About Gillian Sims

Want to see what I do for a living? Come check out my practice!
Essentially, I’m a straight-talking midwife with a down-to-earth Kiwi attitude who will help you balance your expectations around pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and motherhood.

Fueled by Passion (& coffee)

What is helpful about this is that, after this many years in the profession, I still believe in what I do. You could say I’m passionate about my role as a midwife; It it has the potential to empower mothers, families and make a positive impact in people’s lives. Whatever your concerns about becoming a mum – from achieving a viable pregnancy, a positive birth experience, or just knowing there is someone to make you feel heard – good midwives make a difference!

My background includes primary and secondary level care (that means inductions of labour and epidural care) in both New Zealand and Australian hospitals, as well as birthing centre births, water births and home births. I qualified as a midwife in 2007 and since that time I have worked with all sorts of women from all sorts of backgrounds - healthy and unhealthy, happy and unhappy, confident and fearful, women who speak English and women who don’t – it’s pretty difficult to shock me, but you’re welcome to try ;)

Freedom of Choice

My goal as your midwife is to assist you in making fully informed decisions, and to advocate for those decisions when needed. My care is woman-centered, so whether your care requires medical intervention with all the bells and whistles of contemporary medicine, or you have your heart set on an undisturbed birth by candle-light (or you just want to the freedom to change your mind) your choices will be heard, discussed and supported as appropriate.

“Thanks heaps for being such a awesome support person for me at the birth of our son. I felt totally blessed, spoiled, cared for and special while in your care. I totally appreciate all the extra hours and lack of sleep you out in, you excel at being a midwife.”

The Hansens.

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the exceptional care you have shown us. You believed in us, supported us and were always able to clearly answer our questions. You are amazing!!”

Lizzie, Luke and baby Louis.

“Thank you for all the support that you have given me throughout my pregnancy, especially through the long hours of labour and sticking with my family and I the whole time. We really appreciate everything you have done!”
